Hoosiers

Hoosiers is a movie about a small town basketball team from Indiana and their way to the playoffs.  High school basketball means a lot to the school and to the town as well.  Norman Dale is the new coach of this team and has a lot of pressure on him to succeed.  He lost his previous job of coaching by striking a player.  Also the star player, Jimmy Chitwood, isn't planning to play.  This just adds more pressure on Coach Dale to succeed.

The season starts out slow.  The team has a lack of players on the squad, that doesn't help Coach Dales job.  He doesn't help that himself either.  He has been ejected and and benched some of the best players on the team.  He even brings one of his players alcoholic father to be his assistant coach.  Even after all this he doesn't change his methods and the school has a meeting to get rid of him.  They change their minds though after Jimmy Chitwood agrees to play only under Coach Dale. From there on they become an unstoppable force and make it to the playoff finals.  The team they play is more athletic, and taller.  This doesn't matter and doesn't stop them because they go on and win it all.

This movie is a classic David vs Goliath movie.  It is inspirational to see the a team who was not doing so well, go on and win the championship.  With the odds against them and facing a better opponent they win and beat "Goliath".  This movie also gives us the pleasure of seeing two people make the best of their seconds chances and to do something right.  Those two people are coach Dale and the alcoholic father.  They make the most of their second chance and its so uplifting to see that happen to them.  Hoosiers is a great movie to watch for any sports fan.  

Coach Carter

Coach Carter is a movie based on a true story.  It follows Coach Ken Carter, played by Samuel L. Jackson, as he becomes the new coach at his old high school.  He learns that his team is rude and disrespectful so he gives each individual a member a contract to sign.  Each contract has the agreement that they will attend classes and maintain a 2.3 GPA.  Three players refuse to sign and quit the team.

Coach Carter continues on without them.  He coaches them and leads them to there first victory shortly after.  While coaching them Coach Carter continuously teaches his team respect.  He teaches them respect for themselves and for each teammate and other players.  This is seen throughout the movie.  As the movie continues, Coach Carter learns the the team has been skipping practice and that they're grades are low.  To fix this he goes into a lockdown.  He forbids his team to play until their grades improve.  This angers many school officials and local residents.  The school overturns his decision so Coach Carter quits.  He then finds out that team is studying in the gym and are unwilling to play.  They eventually raise their grades and play again.   They make it to the playoffs only to lose but still proud of their achievements.

This is a great movie for any student athlete/sports lover.  This movie shows you the value of what hard work does for you and that it does pay off.  It also shows the value of education and how it is still important even though you play a sport.  it reiterates that throughout the movie.  No matter where you come from hard work always pays off.  This is a great movie to show that and an all around good movie for any sports fan out there.  Not to mention it is one of Samuel L. Jacksons best performances.

Cool Runnings

"Cool Running"s is a fictional-comedy movie based on true events.  Its based on the first Jamaican Bobsled team and their road to the Olympics.  The team consists of Derice Bannock, Sanka Coffie, Yul Brenner, and Junior Bevil; all of which are from Jamaica.  They are led by ex-gold medalist Irv.

This movie is a instant classic.  It definitely not the best movie out there but it still is a solid movie.  There are alot of laughs even though its full of cliches.  This is a feel good movie that shows support to the underdogs.  Even with its cliches it still has a powerful meaning behind it.  It shows to follow your dream no matter what, no matter what anyone says.  They were the least supported team going in.  No one thought a team from where there is no snow could compete in a winter event.  That never stopped them.

The ending of the movie showed that.  It was really gut-wrenching and you couldn't help but support them.  It showed the true meaning of them following your dream no matter what obstacles you face.  It showed you the true spirit and pride of the human race.

This movie is one for the ages.  I recommend watching it.  It really is an uplifting movie no matter how cliche and classy it is.  And it will leave you laughing no matter what.

   

Still the Champions!

The New England Patriots may have lost the Super Bowl, again but it's alright because were still the champions of something!  We still got that Stanley Cup to go brag about even though we don't have that Lombardi trophy.  Just another wonderful thing about being a Masshole.  We got all these trophies to brag about without having to do a thing.  All we have to do is sit there, watch and cheer and we get the glory.  So thank you Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, and yes, even the Patriots for thos trophies.  I'm expecting even more.
